A traveling magician and his assistants are persecuted by authorities in Sweden of the 19th century. Their capture, however, didn't bring victory to those in power.

In 1897 Swedish engineer S. A. Andrée with 2 colleagues prepares to fly over the North Pole in his balloon "Eagle".

On an island, a barber's wife opens an illegal brothel, exploiting their underage daughter. Distraught, the barber plots to permanently remove his wife as customers visit the establishment.

The movie starts with a silent section of slapsticks in BLUE and white and with piano music, giving an outline of Karin's rise and fall. The rest is normal B&W movie. Karin does not belong to the nobility but nevertheless marries ...
