Brian McDermott

After witnessing his parents being killed by creatures on an island as a child, a young man is brought back to the island a few years later by his psychiatrist, only to be terrorized by the same creatures.

In 1932, a modernizing U.S. Army orders the Cavalry to destroy its horses but some sympathetic cavalrymen, defying orders, steal the horses in order to save them from destruction, to the dismay of the top Army-brass.
